Thematic Areas
Historical Theology
It is proposed to analyze the development of biblical-Adventist hermeneutics since its origins, contextualizing it in each historical period and highlighting its turning points, with an emphasis on the impact on ecclesiastical practice over time. Furthermore, examine relevant figures and movements in the history of Adventist hermeneutics, such as Ellen G. White, JN Andrews, HMS Richards, among others, evaluating their contributions and the challenges they presented to Adventist ecclesiastical practice, offering a critical and reflective view on the influence of these leaders and movements on the interpretation and application of Adventist hermeneutical principles.
Systematic Theology
1. It proposes to analyze biblical and theological texts from a theological perspective, using concepts, characterizations and theological methods peculiar to this area of studies. It aims to highlight the theological landmarks and themes that describe how biblical writers and later theologians interpreted the Scriptures, providing a theological reflection on their interpretative practice. It also intends to contribute to the interpretation and application of hermeneutical principles – fundamental and general – in a relevant way by presenting the contribution of hermeneutical tools that are in line with the Scriptures. Finally, the hermeneutical challenges noticeable in the end time are addressed, their impact on the theology and praxis of the church, and the possible responses of biblical-Adventist theology to this scenario.
Exegetical Theology
An analysis of the use of contemporary exegetical methods and different literary genres in the interpretation of the Bible is proposed. Furthermore, we seek to understand the compatibility of these methods with biblical-Adventist hermeneutics, as well as the challenges faced by Adventist identity in theological application and ecclesiastical practice. This analysis provides a reflection on how to interpret and apply the Scriptures in a relevant and contextualized way, in line with Adventist theological identity. Furthermore, the exegetical challenges of the end time are addressed, such as the dissemination of sensationalist apocalyptic interpretations.
Applied Theology
It proposes the analysis of the application of Adventist theological principles in three crucial areas. Firstly, Christian ethics is examined in the face of contemporary challenges, such as secularism, post-modernity and bioethics, with the aim of offering solid hermeneutical solutions based on the Adventist tradition for ecclesiastical practice. Then, the mission of the Adventist Church in the end time is evaluated, using biblical-Adventist hermeneutics for a contextualized and effective approach that meets the needs of the world today. Finally, there is a reflection on the formation of religious leaders for the end time, taking into account challenges such as cultural and religious diversity, the use of new technologies and effective communication, preparing leaders to face such challenges in contemporary ecclesiastical practice.
